The Char Dham helicopter itinerary
Flown from Sahastradhara heliport, Dehradun. Legs between the dhams run around thirty minutes; the return from Badrinath is about an hour. Sequence is subject to weather and air traffic clearance — where a day cannot be flown we rework the sequence rather than drop a dham, wherever that is operationally possible.
- Day 1 Arrive DehradunWe meet you at Jolly Grant Airport, the railway station or the bus stand and take you to your hotel; check-in is from 3 p.m. That evening your coordinator briefs you properly — the flying sequence, the weather picture and what each darshan day looks like. You are weighed for the flight manifest, and we hand you your yatra bag: one bag, five kilograms, and we show you exactly what goes in it.
- Day 2 YamunotriEarly checkout to Sahastradhara heliport for the security briefing and manifest, then a thirty-minute flight to Kharsali. Our team meets you at the helipad with palki or pony for the six kilometres to the temple. Priority darshan at the shrine of Goddess Yamuna — thirty minutes to an hour inside. Back to Kharsali for the night.
- Day 3 GangotriEarly breakfast, then thirty minutes in the air to Harsil. Gangotri is twenty-five kilometres on from the helipad, about fifty minutes by car through the apple country above Harsil. Priority darshan at the temple of Goddess Ganga, at the source of the river. Night at Harsil.
- Day 4 KedarnathThirty minutes to Phata, then a dedicated shuttle flight up to Kedarnath itself — the part of this yatra that used to be a sixteen-kilometre walk. Sixty to ninety minutes at the Jyotirlinga at 3,583 metres, with priority darshan arranged. Shuttle back to Phata for lunch and an overnight rest.
- Day 5 BadrinathThirty minutes to Badrinath, then by car to the temple. Priority darshan at the shrine of Lord Vishnu, thirty minutes to an hour inside. The rest of the day is unhurried — Mana, the last village before Tibet, the Saraswati, and the Brahmakamal on the slopes.
- Day 6 Return to DehradunAn hour in the air from Badrinath, down over the range you have spent five days among. We see you to your onward connection.

On weather: Himalayan helicopter operations are weather-dependent by nature. We plan for it, we communicate early, and we never promise a flying day we cannot control. We also ask you to keep one spare day at the end of your trip.

What it costs, and why we quote
A helicopter yatra is not a fixed-price product. What you pay moves with your dates, your group size, your room configuration and the charter rates in force that season. Any operator publishing one headline number is either quoting a floor you will not actually travel on, or padding it to be safe.
We send you a dated package sheet instead: the real number for your departure, itemised, inclusive of government taxes and aviation charges, with what it covers and what it does not. If a cheaper configuration works for your family, we will say so.

How does the helicopter yatra actually work?
You arrive in Dehradun one day before your flying date and are briefed that evening. From the next morning you fly between the dhams — roughly thirty minutes a leg — with ground transport, priority darshan assistance and your overnight stay arranged at each halt. On the final day you fly back to Dehradun, about an hour from Badrinath.
How long is the Char Dham Yatra by helicopter?
The Char Dham helicopter package runs 5 nights and 6 days from Dehradun, covering Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. The Do Dham Yatra by helicopter covers Kedarnath and Badrinath in 3 nights and 4 days.
Is the journey suitable for senior citizens?
This is largely who it exists for. There is no long trek: palki or pony covers the six kilometres at Yamunotri, a car covers Gangotri, and a shuttle flight replaces the sixteen-kilometre Kedarnath walk. That said, all four shrines are at high altitude and travellers should be in sound physical health. Tell us about mobility or medical conditions when you enquire and we will tell you honestly whether it will work.
What is included in the package?
Helicopter transfers from Sahastradhara heliport in Dehradun covering the shrines on your package and the return, accommodation throughout with all meals, ground transport from Jolly Grant Airport or the railway or bus station on arrival until departure, priority darshan assistance at each shrine, palki or pony at Yamunotri on the Char Dham package, the Phata to Kedarnath shuttle flight, and all applicable government taxes, aviation charges and local levies.
What happens if weather disrupts the yatra?
Himalayan helicopter operations are weather-led and some departures do lose a dham. We rework the sequence wherever it is operationally possible. Where a dham cannot be flown at all, a defined portion of the cost is refundable — the basis is written into your package sheet before you pay. We also ask you to keep one spare day at the end of your trip so that a delay does not cost you your flight home.
How much luggage can I bring?
One bag, five kilograms per person. It is a genuine payload limit rather than a guideline — the helicopter carries six passengers within a strict weight allowance, and the manifest is built around the load and the temperature on the day. We give you the bag at your briefing and show you what to pack.
Do I need to register for the yatra?
Yes. Uttarakhand Government registration is mandatory for every pilgrim and must be completed online before you arrive in Dehradun. We send you the link and talk you through it once your booking is confirmed.
